Plan a Game You Can Finish

Plan a Game You Can Finish

Game Design · 4 min read

Choose a small core loop and turn a big idea into a first playable version.

Give the player one clear goal

A first game can be small and still feel complete. Choose one goal that players can understand immediately: finish a short course, find a hidden item, or earn an upgrade. Build around that goal before adding secondary systems.

Write the core loop in one sentence

Describe the action, feedback, and reason to repeat. This sentence becomes the foundation of your first Wobli prompt.

Example prompt

Players collect shells on a beach, sell them at the dock, and buy a larger basket to carry more.

Keep the first build deliberately small

Limit the first scene to the places and interactions the loop needs. Keep a separate list of future ideas. Add those ideas after a complete playtest of the first loop.
